Perform each of the following steps below (in sequence) as required, until problem is solved:
1. Check that all of the cables are properly connected between the EYEN and the computer, reference connection illustrations shown in Figure 6.
2. Check the power connection to the EYEN.
3. Verify that the user is located within the EYEN capture zone. Attempt a capture in the center of the capture volume.
4. Have the user tilt their chin so that their face is angled towards the EYEN and they are looking at the face camera located at the top and center of the EYEN front surface
5. Verify that the user is properly lit.
6. Verify that the computer recognizes the face camera:
- Stop the EYEN Windows service:
- Open Windows “Services,” and from the “Services” utility window, scroll to locate the “PI Encounter Manager” service.
- With the “PI Encounter Manager” service highlighted, select “Stop” (see Figure below).
- Examine the operation of the face camera:
- From the Desktop, click on the “Start” menu and select All Programs > IDS > IDS Camera Manager.

- If the face camera is listed in the “Camera List” box (see Figure above) and interface is USB, then the face camera is connected. Click Cancel, and proceed with step 7.
- If no camera is listed/found and/or interface is not USB:
- Shut down the PC, reconnect all the cables, and then restart the system.
- Plug face camera into a different USB 3.0 port, and then restart the system.
- Replace the face camera USB 3.0 cable, and then restart the system.
- If the camera is still not listed, the issue is outside the scope of this manual. Contact Princeton Identity for removal & replacement.
7. Examine the operation of the infrared (iris) camera:
- Stop the EYEN Windows service:
- Open Windows “Services,” and from the “Services” utility window, scroll to locate the “PI Encounter Manager” service.
- With the “PI Encounter Manager” service highlighted, select “Stop” (see Figure below).
- Examine the operation of the face camera:
- From the Desktop, click on the “Start” menu and select All Programs > Grey FlyCapture2 SDK > PointGrey FlyCap2.”

- If the iris camera is listed in the “Camera List” box (see Figure above) and interface is USB 3.0, the camera is connected. Click Cancel, and proceed with Step 8.
- If no camera is listed/found and/or interface is not USB 3.0:
- Shut down the PC, reconnect all the cables, and then restart the system.
- Plug iris camera into a different USB 3.0 port, and then restart the system.
- Replace the iris camera USB 3.0 cable, and then restart the system
- If the camera is still not listed, the issue is outside the scope of this manual. Contact Princeton Identity for removal & replacement.
8. Verify that the computer recognizes the Tilt and Focus motors:
- Open Device Manager and look for two RS485 devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers (see Figure below).

- If the both devices are listed, the issue is outside the scope of this manual. Contact Princeton Identity for removal & replacement.
- If the two RS485 devices are not listed:
- Shut down the PC, reconnect all the cables, and then restart the system.
- Plug focus and tilt USB 2.0 cables into different USB 2.0 ports, and then restart the system.
- Replace the focus and tilt USB 2.0 cables, and then restart the system.
- If the problem persists, the issue is outside the scope of this manual. Contact Princeton Identity for removal & replacement.
