This document describes the process of updating the default keyset of a HID SIO card to a custom authentication key using configuration cards. Once the key update is successfully completed, the SIO card will only work with iCLASS credentials with keysets that match to the respective Elite key.
In order to do the update, you need:
• A TWN4 MultiTech / MultiTech 2 / Mini with firmware 3.08 or later and I-Option set
• SIO card must be present
• The tag type HID iCLASS must be active
• A Elite Key Preparation Card
• A Elite Key Media Card
Key Update:
The key update is automatically triggered by the reader during the function call of SearchTag. This means
whenever the reader searches for transponders and a HID Configuration Card is detected, the reader
processes it.
A TWN4 reader in standard configuration cyclically scans for transponders, so as soon as it has detected
a configuration card, the card will be processed. If the reader is running e.g. Simple Protocol, the update
process is started after the function SearchTag has been called. As soon as the update is in progress, this
is signalled by cyclic beeping. If there is an error during processing, the beeper sounds three short low
frequency beeps. In case of success, the beeper sounds three short beeps in high-low-high frequency.
Keep in mind that processing of a configuration card can take more than 15 seconds, so please be patient
and pay attention to well positioning of the card on the reader during that time.
Present Preparation Card:
As first step, present the Preparation Card to the reader. Processing this card takes approximately 1-2
seconds, this step has to be carried out in order to make the SIO card process the respective Media
Card.
Present Media Card:
As second step, present the Media Card. Compared to the Preparation Card, processing of this card
should take much longer, expect a processing time of 15 to 20 seconds. This can also be observed as the
beeper cyclically sounds a short beep.
Once the Media Card has been processed successfully, the SIO card is ready for use with HID iCLASS
credentials that have been rolled out with the respective Elite keys.
